The Courting of Bristol Keats (The Courting of Bristol Keats #1)

Mary E. Pearson

Fae Romantasy

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Mary E. Pearson comes a thrilling romantic fantasy full of dangerous fae, dark secrets, and addictive romance– the first book in a duology.

After losing both their parents, Bristol Keats and her sisters struggle to stay afloat in their small, quiet town of Bowskeep. When Bristol begins to receive letters from an “aunt” she’s never heard of who promises she can help, she reluctantly agrees to meet—and discovers that everything she thought she knew about her family is a lie. Even her father might still be alive, not killed but kidnapped by terrifying creatures to a whole other realm—the one he is from.

Desperate to save her father and find the truth, Bristol journeys to a land of gods and fae and monsters. Pulled into a dangerous world of magic and intrigue, she makes a deadly bargain with the fae king, Tyghan. But what she doesn’t know is that he’s the one who drove her parents to live a life on the run. And he is just as determined as she is to find her father—dead or alive.

My Opinion

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) Bristol Keats and her sisters have been dragged from place to place by their parents their whole lives. They never stay more than a few months and often leave in the middle of the night. After both parents are killed, the sisters struggle to make ends meet until one day Bristol gets an ominous letter from a family member she’s never known. After learning more about her parents, she sets off to a fae world to help the fae defeat a problem and to hopefully find more about her parents.

Mary E. Pearson wrote a favorite YA series of mine so I always try to grab her latest books. Fae worlds tend to be stories I don’t connect with but I was impressed with this one. Pearson did a great job of making Bristol likeable and relatable. Even better, Tyghan, the fae king was cranky and standoffish while still being endearing. Was their romance cheesey? Absolutely, but I expected it and enjoyed the banter and tension. One part I really loved were the sisters and their devotion to each other. The mystery behind their family and parents kept me intrigued throughout making me enjoy this one! That ending was quite the reveal and I can’t wait for book two.

I recommend this for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Cruel Prince but also all those fae lovers out there!

AUDIO REVIEW: Brittany Pressley did a great job with the many voices. I always say that a narrator can make or break a story and she definitely added to it well!
